BBCode Tutorial
« on: April 04, 2011, 08:01:37 pm »
Hey guys! This is an edited tutorial of the guide found on one the Help pages.
BBCode stands for Bulletin Board Codes, although there are lots of people who seem to think it stands for Basic Board Codes. They are wrong. You can find the guide and a list of basic ones here.

For those of you new to BBCode, I'll warn you now, I would not even a real code. It simply customizes your posts and is based off HTML. If however it is the first 'code language' your learning, its a great place to start.

BBcode it very simple and easy to remember. For example, you want to insert a URL, you can either highlight the text you want to be linked and then click the Hyperlink button and you have
Code: [Select]
[url]your text here[/url] How do you change that into a link? well you just insert a = mark and your URL like this:
Code: [Select]
[url=anithly.smfnew.com]your text here[/url] ...Simple! Another example of an easy to remember BBCode is the line break or Horizontal Rule. The code is
Code: [Select]
[hr] Understand? Horizontal Rule.... HR... Get it? If you dont let me just point out out the its the beginning letter of each word... Horizontal Rule= HR

To insert an image, all you have to do is stick the images URL in the middle (between the codes.) So, like this:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://www.smfnew.com/avatars/assorted%20animated%20avatars/avatar-aogo.gif[/url]
I should have done stated this earlier, but all you really need to know to master BBCodes is that if its for example
Code: [Select]
[url][/url] then you need something in the middle (in a code like this the text/link must always be entered
Code: [Select]
[url]in here[/url], if its like this
Code: [Select]
[hr] then you don't need to insert anything, thats all you need.

So thats the basics on BBCode, i may decide to add an advanced BBCode guide later.
Feel free to ask questions about BBCode in the appropriate forums, Ask&Answer.
